Dolphins Escape In An Ugly One 30-25

Entering this game with no emotion at all because of the Saints game, I had no idea what to expect for this game between the Dolphins and Jets. I sat on my couch and what I saw was something that nobody saw coming. The game was primarily a defensive slug fest until the second half as proven by the 3-3 score after 2. The Dolphins defense played great against the run, except for a few plays where New York caught the Dolphins off guard.

Then the third quarter began and NY striked first with a field goal to make it 6-3, what ensued was something dol-fans haven't seen in nearly 2 years, a kick return touchdown by Tedd Ginn Jr. He just used his blazing speed to dodge three tacklers that had the angle on him to score a 100 yard touchdown. The dolphins were then up 10-6. The next drive for the Jets looked promising until Paul Solai, who had a great game, forced a fumble on rookie running back Shawn Greene as Jason Taylor took it back 48 yards to the house. At this point it looked as if the Dolphins could possibly run away with this one, especially after stopping New York on the next drive. However Davone Bess, who had an uncharacteristic bad day, muffed the punt and the Jets were back in business at the Miami 29. Five plays later Sanchez did a PA boot, making the Dolphin's D and the referees look stupid, walking in the endzone with a pile of lineman looking for the ball. The score is now 17-13 at this point.

The next kickoff made every Dol-fan rejoice, as Ginn received the kick-off he seemed trapped, however he juked three guys and ran all the way to the sideline and out-ran everybody again for a 101 yard touchdown. Talk about a statement game, Ginn became the first player in NFL history to have two kick returns of 100+ yards in the same game. He finished 5 yards short of the most yards by a returner in a game in NFL history. The next drive the dolphins defense continued to be inconsistent and the dolphins lead 24-19 entering the 4th.

People can look at the Dolphin's total yards and ridicule, but if you look at it this way, the Dolphins only ran 3 plays in the 3rd quarter. Yes the run game was terrible, only averaging a mere 2.3 yards a carry. However when it mattered, and when the Dolphins needed a touchdown they got it. The dolphins orchestrated a 67 yard drive to be up 30-19 after probably the dumbest two point conversion try ever. Tony Sparano must have forgot the score or something, going for two made no sense and if the Dolphins would have lost, the haters would be on him right now instead of him getting a pass. Unfortunately, the Jets marched right down the field again and scored, never going away in the game that they statistically dominated. The score now at 30-25.

Dolphins go 3 and out and the Jets try to make it 4 straight drives where they score. The Jets get to the Miami 12 with 1st and 10 with under 2 minutes to go. I thought for sure the Jets were going to score and we would have to come back. However, the defense finally came through in the second half and came up with a great goal line stand. Randy Starks made 3 consecutive huge plays, including a much needed sack after applying as much pressure as a middle school team would. Vontae Davis also made some great plays, but also made a few dumb plays. Thankfully, the good outweighed the bad this game for the rookie. I think that Vontae Davis is a stud and without a doubt will be a great corner for years to come.

All in all this game was oddly enough won by Tedd Ginn. After losing his wide receiver job he responded and played great special teams. Maybe we should just keep him out there and just use him for certain plays like reverses. The Dolphins finally had a stroke of luck come their way. Let's be real here, the Dolphins were outgained 378-104. Based on that information yes probably the Jets should have won, however the Dolphins should have won vs. the Saints and the Colts. I guess what they say is true, what goes around comes around.
